Australia's captain Set to Play a Significant Contribution in the Ashes

Test match action

Pat Cummins has taken over 300 dismissals in 71 Test matches with an average of 22.10.

The Australian chair of selectors the selector has confirmed that pace spearhead Cummins will be a central figure in the upcoming historic rivalry.

Rumors had circulated that the veteran bowler might sit out due to a stress fracture in his back that remained unresolved.

Earlier indications from the Australian camp suggested no official announcement had been made regarding whether he would play, with the extended contest kicking off on 21 November in the WACA.

Bailey expressed that his recovery is on track and was "optimistic" about the likelihood of being involved.

"We know that the window is narrowing and multiple considerations at play, aside from the physical problem, but other factors as well," he commented.

"It's positive. We firmly believe that he'll participate in a major part. With luck starting in Perth. Otherwise, we'll adjust."

Previous Setbacks

The captain missed the white-ball matches against India and New Zealand last month after examinations confirmed a stress reaction in his back.

He has a history of spinal problems, with flare-ups in multiple past seasons causing him to miss three Australian summers in a limited period.

The bowler mentioned he would be bold in recovery efforts in his rehabilitation process to ensure his availability for the contest.

He mentioned that it was unclear if Cummins had begun bowling as part of his comeback but acknowledged it was "pressing" for him to be fit for the opener.

Alternative Arrangements

Should Cummins not be fit, veteran batsman Smith will lead the side.

All-rounder Cameron Green was excluded lately from Australia's squad for their limited-overs matches against India as a safety move because of an abdominal issue.

The selector characterized it as a "slight concern and stated that he'll feature in the state-level matches, so will be "ideally positioned to be ready to bowl."

"We put so much time has gone into developing the strategy for him to be available for the opening match as an all-rounder," the selector detailed.

"His involvement was limited to the starting games in any case. How he handles the cricket bat in white-ball cricket, if it causes any delay for another day, we opted to take a cautious route."
