Fall Classic Final Game Attracts 51M Viewers In the US, Canada and Japanese Regions.

The exciting extra-inning contest that saw the Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run drew a combined 51M spectators across the United States, Canada, and Japan territories. Major League Baseball announced this is the highest-rated World Series Game 7 since the 1991 edition contest between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Details

The Saturday epic game drew 27.33M audience members on Fox Sports networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also is the top-rated Fall Classic game since the 2017 final game between the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07M. This marks a 16% increase compared to the last Game 7 between the Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game ranked 4th, Game 4 ranked seventh, Game 5 came in eighth, and the third game landed in thirteenth position.

International Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game recorded 11.6 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This made it the most-watched English-language broadcast in Canada since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest began at 9 PM local time, it drew 12 million. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – where World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – recorded 13.1M spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Totals and Patterns

The entire seven-game series averaged 15.71M audience members on Fox, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership growth for two straight seasons.

Counting the opening game broadcast on the Univision network, the total American average reached over 16 million. The overall World Series average in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1M in Canada.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels drew 8.09 million viewers, an eight percent rise compared to the previous year and Fox’s strongest playoff performance after the 2017 season.

MLB reported that the World Series was televised in 203 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen various languages.
